The midsagittal plane is the sagittal plane that passes exactly through the body's midline, splitting it into equal right and left halves. It’s also called the median plane and runs vertically from front to back. A general sagittal plane may divide the body into left and right parts that are not equal, whereas the midsagittal plane specifically creates equal halves. In contrast, the coronal (frontal) plane divides front from back, and the transverse (horizontal) plane divides upper from lower.
